THE PROVINCIAL GOAL
"Facilitating the capacity of the community to identify and implement appropriate and effective services, supports, and learning opportunities for children (birth) - 6 years that contribute to healthy children and families."
Presently there are three areas in British Columbia receiving the funding: Prince George, Port Alberni/the West Coast, and the Eastern Upper Fraser Valley from Chilliwack to Boothroyd. Plans are underway to add seven more areas to the Initiative.
A group of child development resource people, called the Implementation Committee, is working to carry out the goals of the initiative in Eastern Upper Fraser Valley region. The objective is to research how communities can develop, and bring to life, a plan to better support families as they raise their young children, specifically from pre-natal to six years of age.
Make Children First is working to let people know how important the early years are for young children and their families.
